THE BENEFITS OF STATIC IP ADDRESSES
- Using static IP addresses on networks gives better protection against network security problems than does DHCP (Dynamic) address assignment.
- Some network devices do not support DHCP (Dynamic). Using static IP address assignment for all devices on the network guarantees to avoid potential address conflicts where DHCP may supply an address already assigned statically elsewhere. Devices that need Static IP Addresses: Security Camera Network, Credit Card Machines, and some video conferencing equipment, just to name a few.
- If you to run servers, you will always know where in the world it is and/or be able to login remotely. DHCP has the potential of changing IP's every time the lease is renewed. This means you can do away with using dynamic DNS to track your server down.
TO GET A STATIC IP ADDRESS
A Static IP Address is included with your business internet package. However, it is not automatically active. We still have to get it assigned. We will need the MAC Address off your router to assign the Static IP. To request a Static IP call 1-800-903-0508 and select the Commercial option in the menu. You will then be connected with a commercial agent who can make that request for you. If you do not request a static IP address when you place an order for install, you will be charged a $2.95 change of service fee to request it. It takes 3 to 5 business days for you to be assigned a Static IP. You will be contacted by a representative when the process is complete, who
will then provide you with the Static Address. If you need the DNS or Gateway, please make that request when requesting the Static IP so that we may serve you quickly. We all know how badly you need that address, and we don’t want anything to slow down your business.
